Amy- Yes, I do understand. Circumstances, sometimes beyond our control, can land us in a rut. We need the unfulfilling job to pay the rent, can’t pay the rent without the unfulfilling job. It can seem hopeless.

Have you seen the movie Shawshank redemption? In the film, a very clever prisoner decides he’s going to escape. He sets in motion a careful plan, but it requires small steps EVERY day. He digs. He hides the dirt in his clothing and dumps it in the yard. He digs more. For years. Bit by bit, he inches closer to his goal.

I won’t give away the movie, in case you have not seen it. But the moral here is that you CAN change your circumstances. Bit by bit. Small steps add up. Consistency matters. Whether it’s learning new skills or going back to school online. Say no to whatever you can that gets in the way of your goal.

Hang in there, don’t give up, and I wish you luck in working toward the change you deserve.
