Regarding domestic violence, officers in our police department were well trained in looking for the “primary aggressor.” We arrested both men and women. However, many times there was no domestic violation, just couples arguing. Sometimes good people experience struggles in their relationships. They might yell or drink too much, but not commit a crime. We did our best to provide advice and resources.

I’m hesitant to write about these things, because readers often project their own experiences and personal biases onto the stories and accounts of other people. Each circumstance is different. Relationships can be complex.
