Hi Christopher- Thanks for reading my article and weighing in here. Epstein’s book “Range” makes a good case for “breadth” over “depth” of experiences and education, but I don’t completely buy that late specialization is better than early specialization. Some skills take years of training and development, and not everyone has the time or income to dabble in many disciplines before focusing on one. I do acknowledge in my article the following: “No doubt reading widely and acquiring diverse knowledge can broaden your perspectives, enrich your life and quite possibly improve your work and creativity.” I’m all for enriching one’s life with broad education and experiences, but at some point (if you want to excel) it’s far easier to commit to one thing versus many.
