Hi Nicole- A belated thanks for reading and your thoughtful comments. There are people of modest means who write about the down side to money (I knew a priest with little money who felt wealth was not the true answer to happiness.) The greatest joys in life are our health, families, friends and passions.
However, to your point, when I first read the actor Jim Carrey say fame and money are not the answer, I thought, easy for him to say with his millions. Still, it’s interesting how often I’ve encountered similar conclusions from other wealthy folks who feel money and fame don’t necessarily bring happiness.
Consider all the people who win lotteries and often end up miserable. The newfound wealth often leads to fights, divorces and other problems.
I understand white privilege arguments, and realize my perspective might be different had I been born under different circumstances. Yet, I also recognize that nothing was handed to my family. My father worked by day and attended law school at night to further his education. He lived modestly and sacrificed a lot to support his family. Which I’m doing now for my son.
I think we need to hear from all voices, and not discount anyone based on sex, race, orientation or social status.
Thanks again for reading!
