McKenna- Good points. It’s true that financial independence makes it easier to leave a bad relationship. However, Steve and Lisa’s relationship was not entirely bad. They were going through a rough patch, but there was no violence, infidelity, or addiction issues. Steve’s problem was that, for awhile, he took Lisa for granted. Lisa turned the tables on Steve by investing in herself, making new friends, and caring less about what Steve thought. I think her growth was a wake up call to Steve, who eventually spent less time after work with the boys and more time with Lisa and their child.
