Roy- My 26-year career in law enforcement showed me the very worst of people. Men and women who completely lacked humanity, grace, and ethics. So mankind is by no means perfect. But yet, at times we are simply beautiful to one another. And most days, as I go about town, people are decent and friendly. There are the jerks here and there, but mostly people behave well. And we sometimes produce such poetry and depth. AI may very well improve our lives with health care advances, self-driving cars that are not inebriated, and more. But then AI may also usher in autonomous weapons, refined Chatbots that, as writer Yuval Harari has said in The Economist, can hack human civilization and influence our voting and ideas with intimate and convincing precision. So my sense with AI is to hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. Thanks for reading.
